TN (Nomura) Two-Stage Rocket Launching Pad

Notes

Issued during mid 1950’s – 1960.
This tinplate model in light blue has delightful and detailed lithography, complete with all parts intact. It comprises a launching base with JUPITER lettering, control operator figure (with moving arms) in front of a screen, a rocket tower and two rockets. Measures approx 17.5 cms x 10.5 cms.

Once the rocket is loaded into the launcher, the sequence begins! However, the rocket does not locate so we have placed a finger in the rocket tube to start the sequence.
The radar screen lights up (intermittently and this does not work every time).
The countdown starts with a series of beeps which get progressively faster.
The controller in front of the screen begins to move one arm (sometimes the other as well)
At this point the rocket is meant to fire, although we have not been able to achieve this.

Often, vintage battery-operated models are sold untested, however – we could not resist trying it ourselves!

This space toy has been in storage for many, many years and does not appear to have had much (if any) use. Tiny tarnishing at one side. Minor wear besides. The rockets are complete, although the rubber tips are showing signs of age.
A scarce item in any condition, and especially difficult to find boxed.

It is complete although with some tear repairs. Age-darkening in one area. Little area of writing on the lid. With packing piece too.

A most decorative nostalgic piece on display.
