Notes

Issued by Corgi during 1968 only, this is a most sought-after Gift Set, complete with the rare promotional ‘Sun Rally’ Mini and the metallic bronze Hillman Imp! Contents all look unused – this is an impressive selection of Corgi models:

In detail, this set comprises:
1) Corgi 1138 Ford Articulated Car Transporter in fresh and original scarlet red, blue with a very pale green-blue upper ramp, four intact red plastic chocks, cast wheels. The distinctive ‘Corgi Cars’ sign is gleaming bright on both sides, both paper labels are fresh and clean at the rear, both swivelling wing mirrors are complete with the little ‘mirror’ pieces, horns are straight on the roof. Indeed all delicate parts are intact. One little chip on the top ramp and a few negligible dots besides. Unused.

2) Corgi 252 Rover 2000 in lustrous metallic maroon with a cream interior. Trans-O-Lite issue with shaped spun wheels. Minor rub at the front bumper, otherwise difficult to fault.

3) Corgi 251 Hillman Imp in bright metallic gold with a white stripe. In virtually mint condition with one (probably factory) mark at a wheel arch and a raised casting dot on the roof. Notably, the suspension is fine on all four spun wheels. Scarce colour issue – and especially difficult to find with intact suspension!

4) Corgi 440 Ford Cortina Estate. Metallic blue version with brown and cream side panels, shaped spun wheels with suspension. Bright chrome and jewelled headlights. Just one dot on the roof away from mint!

5) Corgi 249 Morris Mini Cooper De-Luxe in black with a red roof and complete ‘wickerwork’ side and rear panels. Suspension on shaped spun wheels, jewelled headlights.

One minor dot or two away from mint!

6) Corgi 226 Morris Mini Minor in light blue with suspension on shaped spun wheels. Graded near mint with a few little marks and a hairline crack to the windscreen.

7) Corgi 333 Sun/RAC Rally Mini in red and white with suspension on shaped spun wheels. Very near mint condition with tiny wear to a couple of the transfers.

All contents are housed in a complete and bright polystyrene inner (couple of small rub marks from the models) and a very minor split.

This set comes complete with model specific Instruction Leaflet for the Corgi Car Transporter which has a Corgi Club Membership Form on the reverse.

Also present are sixteen little traffic cones, (not original bag now).

The outer box is complete and bright with all end flaps intact if rather ruffled with a small tear or two. The cellophane is original but has a small split in one corner. No graffiti. Original shopkeeper’s price label shows that this set was sold for a massive 56/6 (approx. 2 pounds, 85 pence) at the time! No wonder few were made!
