Notes
We must say that, after much discussion and further research, we are truly thrilled to say that to the best of our knowledge, this example is a factory prototype of a never-issued Golden Shred Warrior Guy Van!
We were extremely cautious at first (as one should rightly be) since we were aware of some fakes that were made during the 1980’s. We were under the impression, therefore, that this was one of them.
However, we have been in discussion with a fellow collector who personally knew this clever fabricator and actually has some examples of his handiwork! They may be convincing during a casual inspection but a knowledgeable Dinky collector would quickly note the difference.
He informs us that the transfers were rather thin in comparison to true Dinky examples, the models were not riveted but bolted, the rear door pins on the fakes were also a polished alloy not steel.
After careful comparison and further examination by ourselves we are convinced that this is a genuine factory pre-production example. We believe that just one factory prototype was made and this is it!
A most exciting revelation.
Finished in brilliant gloss red with complete and intact decorative transfers on both sides. Mint transfers. Wonderfully vibrant, unfaded paint finish throughout. Bright base. Well-shaped smooth original tyres.
The striped plain Dinky Supertoys box is also genuine. Clean and brightly-coloured throughout. Note the unique print at the short lid end. There is slight wear and a seam split.
