Corgi Gift Set 40
Corgi Gift Set 40 The Avengers. Very near mint/boxed. Lotus with spun wheels. With three ORIGINAL plastic umbrellas and both figures of John Steed and Emma Peel. From The David Frank Collection.
Notes
This attractive Gift Set was inspired by the t.v. show ‘The Avengers’ and was issued between 1966-69.
It comprises:
1) John Steed’s Bentley in red and black finish, with a combination of silver and pale gold spoked wheels. Complete with all parts, and includes the figure of John Steed at the wheel. Very near mint condition.
2) Emma Peel’s Lotus Elan S2 is in bright, white finish. Suspension on shaped spun wheels. Well-shaped original tyres. Corgi period accessory number-plates and tax disc added. Couple of tiny marks to the paint finish. Original figure of Emma Peel.
This set comes with three plastic umbrellas! These are notably the originals – so often they can go astray, particularly bearing in mind how small they are and how they were never stored in a packet but merely slotted into holes on the plinth. So many that we see have (pretty decent) replacements but they do lack the fine detailing of the originals. These originals have the furling details to the ‘rolled-up’ cloth part of the umbrella and delicate details on the handle, fine point at the base. Little details perhaps but really nice to see.
Card plinth is in excellent condition with bright graphics on crisp card. One wheel slot tear and a small tear besides. Minor wear. Only one pull-tab now.
Outer box is complete and strongly-coloured with a crisp feel. Minor age wear only.
A sought-after Gift Set.
