Corgi 479
Corgi 479 Commer Mobile Camera Van 'UNIVERSAL COMMERCIAL INDUSTRIAL FILMS'. Very near mint. CAST wheel & gold tripod issue. IN PRESENTATION FILM REEL CAN. From a dedicated Corgi collector in the U.S. QDT starting bid £250. Please note that QDT apply 12.5% buyer's commission.
Notes
The owner tells us:
“The camera van reportedly belonged to the estate of a retired military officer in California. I believe he was more of a movie collector than a diecast collector”.
This blue and white Commer Van has a bright mid-blue interior, and suspension on cast wheels. As-new Corgi tyres with ‘Corgi Toys’ embossed. Note that this version has a gold tripod, more often found with a silver tripod. 3 position cameraman and his rotating camera*.
Instead of the expected ‘Samuelson Film Service Limited’ papers labels at the sides, this model has ‘UNIVERSAL COMMERCIAL INDUSTRIAL FILMS, UNIVERSAL CITY, CALIFORNIA, 91608’ labels.
Comes with a Film Reel Can, lined with soft wadding and on the lid there is another label:
‘UNIVERSAL COMMERCIAL INDUSTRIAL FILMS, UNIVERSAL CITY, CALIFORNIA, 91608’.
This is an intriguing period promotional item and QDT would love to hear from any collector who can shed further light on it.
