Notes
Acknowledged in ‘The Great Book Of Dinky Toys’, this collector in the U.S. brings his 37 year collection to QDT. Included are some very rare items and a wealth of period literature and catalogues.
Export issue to the U.S., we are pleased to offer for sale this delightful combination of models and period ephemera!
2 x Chrysler Royal Sedans issued for export to the U.S. Made for just one year – 1952, and extremely difficult to find in any condition.
1) Version in two-tone green, silver trim, green hubs. Near mint plus grade. Wear mostly to the open baseplate. Original smooth tyres.
2) Version in vibrant red and yellow, silver trim, matching yellow hubs. Shiny open base. Original smooth tyres. Extremely rare issue. Honest condition with a few chips as one might expect for essentially an unboxed model over 60 years old.
The elusive Trade box in cream with ‘linen’ texture is complete and sound with no tears or repairs. Light wear. With dividers. Red U.S. Export Hudson Dobson Label. Residue from original tape. Shiny staples.
With dividers:
*Dinky Toys Catalogue‘1/53’, so released January 1953. Similar cover as undated 1952, but cover has lower diagonal field in yellow and new address for H.Hudson Dobson in Kenilworth, New Jersey. Otherwise identical catalogue to U.S. undated 1952 with same 2-tones illustrated on page 9 and separate price list that omits all 39s. The second and last to illustrate the 2-tones and the last black & white U.S. catalogue. Rare short run interim catalogue until the all-colour was issued in the spring.
Light wear.
Light crease and wear.
A charming period Chrysler Car Brochure, from 1939, is included, too.
Message from the owner:
“It took 30 years to acquire my 3 39 Series Trade Boxes and I know of only 2 other examples that have come to market on either side of the Atlantic in that time”.
