Notes
Acknowledged in ‘The Great Book Of Dinky Toys’, this collector in the U.S. brings his 37 year collection to QDT. Included are some very rare items and a wealth of period literature and catalogues.
Export issue to the U.S. just one of these export Oldsmobiles for sale is a rare event but complete with the extremely elusive Trade Box and original dividers, this is a Red Letter Day!
Issued for export to the U.S. Made for just one year – 1952, and extremely difficult to find in any condition. Original examples.
1) Version in glossy tan and cream, silver trim, black hubs.
Couple of little marks to the paint finish – a relatively unscathed survivor, considering that it is essentially an unboxed model over 60 years old.
In all original and authentic condition (couple of extra strokes of factory paint) – note that this example has a closed rear base. Original smooth tyres run well.
Very near mint.
2) Version in tan and cream, silver trim, lighter tan hubs. Closed base. Some marking and grubbiness to the paint and rusty axles now. Original smooth tyres run well. Near mint.
3) Version in two-tone blue with light blue wheels. Pleasing glossy finish. Few tiny marks at bumpers and a couple of exposed edge marks besides. Original smooth tyres run well. Very near mint.
The elusive Trade box in cream is complete and sound with no tears or repairs. Note the grubbiness commensurate with age and light staining to the lid.
Pleased to say that the original dividers are present and intact, too.
Message from the owner:
“It took 30 years to acquire my 3 39 Series Trade Boxes and I know of only 2 other examples that have come to market on either side of the Atlantic in that time”.
A charming period Oldsmobile Car Brochure, copyright 1938, is included:
