Notes
One of the highlights from this exceptional collection, we are thrilled to bring to the market-place this proposed Corgi Gift Set 17, considered in October 1961, but never produced, even though this box was printed.
Extract from The Great Book of Corgi (Marcel Van Cleemput):
One further item scheduled for this ‘RACING MONTH’ (October 1961) was Gift Set 17 ECURIE CORGI LAND ROVER with BRM RACING CAR ON TRAILER. This, however, never materialised even though the box was printed. GS17 would finally appear in March 1963, but with 154 FERRARI FORMULA 1 Car on the Trailer instead of the BRM. The main reason for not producing this original Gift Set was primarily due to the logistics of meeting the production requirements of the existing Land Rover and the BRM.
The finished article, properly printed, so not a mock-up or an artist’s impression, this box is vibrant, clean and complete with no tears. Couple of tiny light stains and the most minor wear besides.
Reverse:
This actual example was purchased by the owner from Losch Auction House at the sale of the property of Marcel Van Cleemput. One of the rarest finds, this Corgi Gift Set box was discovered nestled in between one of the many Corgi Card Files along with other items of literature in Marcel’s office. The Old School Collector purchased these files and it is only upon sorting through them after he purchased them, that he discovered this box!
This is the actual example used in The Great Book of Corgi on page 108, plate 200. Here is the image of it so that you can see that it matches exactly – undeniably the actual example owned by Marcel Van Cleemput and used in The Great Book of Corgi.
