Notes
This sought-after Gift Set 1st issue from 1962-66 comprises:
1) Corgi 426 Booking Office.
Excellent plus original condition with complete paper labels (save for tiny corner loss to one)) and transfers. Attractive Smith’s Karrier Bantam Van has a vibrant red and blue finish with shaped spun wheels with suspension. A few large-ish chips at one top edge and another on the opposite side top edge. We expect that this model was dropped/knocked at some time – these marks are not as a result of play-wear or similar. Perhaps this set was on display at some time when the accident occurred.
2) Corgi 438 Land-Rover in near mint plus condition with correct early tin tilt, spare wheel on the bonnet and paper labels on both doors (a little of the glue residue above one on one side). Chip at a front bumper and a few little marks besides.
3) Corgi 1121 Crane Truck. in vivid red and yellow finish with light blue lettering and matching wheels. Near mint plus. A couple of tiny marks and some dulling to the chrome jib.
4) 2 x 1123 Animal Cages, with intact amber plastic roof detail and blue plastic sliding doors (as is so often the case, these plastic doors have become rather discoloured now). Shaped spun wheels. Vivid red and yellow finish. Barely a mark to the paint finish. Near mint plus condition. Still in their original little clear plastic bags (still factory sealed) are the sets of lions and bears. Unapplied transfers too.
5) Corgi 606 Elephant & Cage on Trailer. Correct early issue with bars. With elephant and paper label at one side (little edge crease). Version with light grey towing eye. Trailer has a couple of little marks. Near mint plus condition.
White polystyrene inner is clean, bright and fresh-looking.
Colourful pictorial box is such an attractive and atmospheric part of this Gift Set! Very difficult to find this good. Colours are vibrant. Card is clean. There are no tears or punctures. No graffiti, either. Light wear includes original tape residue at the sides – but crucially no surface loss.
Period price label at one end – this set cost 52/6!
Original card piece which protects the lid from the contents of the box is present, too.
Instructions for the Crane Truck and the Corgi Club Membership Form are included.
