Corgi FAO 14 Fire Engine Set. Very near mint/boxed. Very rare Gift Set with original FAO Schwarz New York Price Label. 1966 issue (we believe). From The Monty Calme Collection.
Notes
Very rare to come to the market place, this is one of a very small range of Gift Sets sold through the FAO Schwarz toy shops in the U.S. This particular example was made for Christmas 1966, we believe, and comprises:
1) Corgi 1127 Bedford Fire Engine ’Simon Snorkel, early issue with gold booms, in colourfully illustrated card box with polystyrene base. With leaflet. Absolutely minimal wear to model and the box is an even more difficult find in this so close to pristine state. With Leaflet (somewhat age-affected now).
2) Corgi 482 Chevrolet Fire Chief, earliest issue with rectangular ‘FIRE CHIEF" paper labels and shaped spun wheels with suspension. Very, very near mint boxed (slight age transparency to the paper labels). Intact ’FIRE CHIEF’ bonnet label. Minor bend to the aerial due to prolonged box contact. Blue roof light. Chrome is unrubbed. Really crisp and fresh box.
The most important component of this set is, of course, this striking FAO Schwarz box! Strongly-coloured in deep turquoise with a very lightly patterned cream base. Complete clean and bright strip label at one short end of the lid F.A. O. 14 FIRE ENGINE SET. Nearby, you will see the original FAO Schwarz New York Price Label.
The lid has lost none of its colour vibrancy and looks as if it has been rarely handled and carefully stored.
Note the lightly-patterned cream base has light staining from the application of the original glue.
No tears, splits or repairs.
Included is the original small card packing piece.
