Corgi Gift Set 40 The Avengers. Very near mint/boxed. Lotus with spun wheels. With three ORIGINAL plastic umbrellas and both figures of John Steed and Emma Peel. From 'The New European' Collection.
Notes
The New European collection richly evoking the period between the late 1950?s through to the mid 1970?s, this large collection has been lovingly compiled by an enthusiast with particular emphasis on point of sale, including original cabinets and literature, prototypes, promotional items, alongside a high quality collection of individual models and Gift Sets.
This attractive Gift Set was inspired by the t.v. show ‘The Avengers’ and is in very close to perfect condition, issued between 1966-69.
It comprises:
1) John Steed’s Bentley in red and black finish, silver spoked wheels. complete with all parts, and including the figure of John Steed at the wheel. Very near mint condition.
A few tiny marks to the black running boards.
2) Emma Peel’s Lotus Elan S2 is in bright, white finish. With a few small marks. Suspension on shaped spun wheels. Well-shaped original tyres. Original figure of Emma Peel.
This set comes with three plastic umbrellas! These are notably the originals – so often they can go astray, particularly bearing in mind how small they are and how they were never stored in a packet but merely slotted into holes on the plinth. So many that we see have (pretty decent) replacements but they do lack the fine detailing of the originals. These originals have the furling details to the ‘rolled-up’ cloth part of the umbrella and delicate details on the handle, fine point at the base. Little details perhaps but really nice to see!
Card plinth is in excellent condition with bright graphics on crisp card. Couple of minor wheel slot tears and minor grubbiness besides. Just one of the pull tabs at the ends is missing now.
Outer box is complete and very brightly-coloured with a crisp feel. Very minor age wear but no tears or graffiti. Residue from a period price label at an end flap.
A sought-after Gift Set.
