D161
Dinky 40J/161 Austin Somerset Saloon. Rare DEEP BLUE issue. Near mint/boxed, with correct colour spot. From a private cache of high quality models.
Notes
Rare to come to the market place, this Austin Somerset model is finished in a distinctive deep blue with lighter blue ridged wheels, smooth tyres.
Fine original silver detailing at radiator, bumpers and headlights.
Shiny base has a very small tarnished area. ‘Austin Somerset’ cast on the underside of the roof. Original tyres (one has a couple of light flat spots).
Hard to find a mark – downgraded due to a fine light ‘spattering’ of tiny pinprick white marks mostly on one side.
The box bears both the older numbering 40J and the new numbering 161 ( the change-over occurring in 1954). Correct colour spot at the end flaps. A little handling wear including the tiniest start of a tear. Period price at an end flap.
A very difficult colour variation to find.
